First Day of Summer on Kaercher Creek Lake
I really don’t like summer. I’m fall/spring type person for so many reasons. I’m especially not a big fan of summer fishing. I’ll fish throughout the summer but fishing tends to be more difficult and crowds tend to be more abundant.
This was just the case on a morning trip to Kaercher Creek Lake near Hamburg in Berks County. This little 30 acre lake had 10 boats on it. The fishing was not so hot. I saw two bass caught. One looked to be about 14 inches by a guy using topwater. The other kept the skunk out of my canoe and was about 12 inches. I caught it on a Fat Free Shad crankbait.
I only fished the crankbait for the last 20 minutes of the trip. I probably should’ve fished it earlier in the day.
Kaercher Creek Lake was a nice small lake. A local fisherman who was fishing from shore said that the crowds go away after the few weeks of bass fishing.
I had heard that the Lake had a lot of fallen trees in the water. I didn’t find this at all. The lake was pretty grassy with some very nice deepwater grass lines. My biggest concern about the lake is how hard it may get pounded given the amount of fishing pressure I saw today.
