Nothing New on Deer Management from the Winter Meetings

I probably could’ve written the article prior to the meeting, and I would’ve been right on. Hunters would show up in mass saying that there are not enough deer and the timber industry would say there are too many. And that is exactly what has happened.

As you know, I fall into the camp that says hunting is at risk from the current deer management strategies. I want to acknowledge the work of Unified Sportsmen to represent our sport in the State. If you went and spoke up, kudos to you.

Unfortunately, we are losing this battle, and I don’t expect any real changes from these meetings. In fact, I probably won’t write much about these meetings. But I will keep writing about the issues that confront us as Pennsylvania hunters. We must persist. As the old saying goes, we may be losing the battle but we can still win the war.
